Final year UG medical student allegedly commits suicide

A student of the University of Ghana Medical School is reported to have taken his own life on Wednesday.

Joseph Obeng Opuni’s lifeless body was found in his hostel room in the early hours of September 4, campus-based UniversNews reports.

A source at the University told JoyNews that the deceased might have taken some pills to induce death.

On what may have pushed him to take his life, the source said Opuni is reported to have made a string of poor grades which might have resulted in depression.

Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's first post-independence leader, has died aged 95.

His family confirmed his death to the BBC. Mr Mugabe had been receiving treatment in a hospital in Singapore since April. He was ousted in a military coup in 2017 after 37 years in power. Mr Mugabe's early years were praised for broadening access to health and education for the black majority - but his later years were marked by rights abuses and corruption. He won Zimbabwe's first election after it secured independence from the UK, becoming prime minister in 1980. He abolished the office in 1987, becoming president instead. Former President John Dramani Mahama will fail to become President again in 2020 as he is bound to lose to incumbent President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Prophet Paul Kusi Appiah of Nyame Tease Ampa Prayer Centre has revealed.
